Setting Goals and Reaching Them
Here we are at the beginning of another year. We’ve been through this same routine before. The “New Year, New Me” posts, the astronomical goals that people swear they will accomplish, the huge rush to the gym in the first couple of weeks of January. But come March, most people will fall right back into where they were the year before.
In 2021, a survey about New Year’s Resolutions was done with 1,500 participants. The top resolutions that were made were about improving fitness and health. The participants started off excited about the possibilities a new year can bring and ready to invest in themselves. But how many were actually successful?
After one week, the success rate was 75%. After one month, it was 64%. After six months, it was an astounding 46%. Majority of people didn’t even last half the year. There are many reasons why someone might give up on the goal they set like time, money, energy. But there are just as many, if not more, reasons on why you should push through and continue to work towards your goals.
Setting goals and reaching them makes you better. It’s definitely not always easy, but the end result is always worth it. When choosing your goals and New Year’s Resolutions, try changing the question you ask yourself. Don’t ask, “What do I need to change about myself,” or “What do I need to fix?” Instead ask, “What can I do to make this year more joyful,” and “How can I grow and flourish?” Once you have your main goal in mind, use these tips to help hold yourself to them:
- Set realistic and scalable goals. Big changes come through small steps.
- Plan ahead! Consider what change you want to see and create an outline of how to get there.
- Allow yourself rewards along the process. Once you reach a milestone, reward yourself. You deserve it!
